MIA ĆUK

MIA ĆUK

Mia Ćuk is an artist working with photography, archives, text, books, voice and gesture. Her work oscillates between experimental and textual practices on the one hand, and visual arts on the other, but there are also periods when she does not create at all. Even though she formally studied photography, she has directed her recent research at trying to understand materiality of visual experience today, with a special interest for the methodology of disappearance and destabilisation of photographic images. She is interested in the space of meeting between text and image, and she often presents her works as imaginary archives, fragments and unfinished installations, accompanied by self-authored texts (essays, fiction) shaped into samizdat editions and publications. She has simultaneously studied 20th century literature, especially essays, travelogues, diaries, periodicals and other fragmentary forms. She works out of her room, so spaces (and times) of every day are in a particular focus of her work. She lives in Belgrade.
