Predrag Nešković was born in 1938 in Bijela (Montenegro). He graduated from the Academy of Applied Arts in Belgrade in 1965, in a class mentored by Prof Mihailo S. Petrov. Since 1958, he has exhibited in a great number of group exhibitions in Serbia, Yugoslavia and abroad. Predrag Nešković entered the art scene in early 1960s, the period of the domination of Informelle and abstract painting close to Belgrade’s new figuration of the time, with elements of pop-art and poetic fantasy. In the 1970s, Nešković shifted his artistic expression towards lyricism, irony and narrative anecdotes. This new iconography bore reference to consumer society which also engulfed the everyday life in Yugoslavia. In the language of pulp and kitsch, he reacted to the archetypes of the era. During the 1980s, Nešković once again modified his poetics by engaging with the postmodern paradigm, while in his latest works, he has resorted to deconstructivist installations full of irony and derision towards the world which cherishes the worthless, industrial products intended to replace artistic creation. He lives and works in Belgrade.
